On April 13th, 2020, the company’s name officially changed to PT Krakatau Nippon Steel Synergy (PT KNSS) after formerly being named PT Krakatau Nippon Steel Sumikin. PT KNSS was established on December 26th, 2012. The company's office is located in Cilegon, Banten and engaged in the business of the manufacture and sale of cold-rolled steel, hot-dip galvanized steel and galvannealed steel products dedicated for automotive use in Indonesia. PT KNSS is the Joint Venture Company between Nippon Steel Corporation (NSC) from Japan and PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk. (PT KS) from Indonesia.
PT KNSS has built a Galvanizing, Annealing and Processing Line (GAPL) which is a manufacturing line integrating the functions of both Continuous Annealing Line and Continuous Galvanizing Line. GAPL is equivalent to the state-of-the-art equipment now in operation at NSC’s steelworks in Japan, and which is capable of producing high-grade, high-quality cold-rolled, hot-dip galvanized, and galvannealed steel sheets, including steel sheets for automotive outer panels and high-strength steel.
PT KNSS started for commercial operation in July 2017 with a capacity of 480,000 metric tons/year.
On April 1st, 2019, NSSMC changed its trade name into Nippon Steel Corporation (NSC). Since October 2012, when the former Nippon Steel and the former Sumitomo Metal Industries merged to become Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation, it has promoted business development aggressively and implemented restructuring in Japan and abroad.NSC has been ahead of its competitors in establishing overseas downstream production bases in Asia, North America, and Latin America. NSC now has a global supply network of 21 million tons of capacity mainly to satisfy requirements in three key industrial sectors: automotive, energy and resources, and infrastructure
At present, NSC’s overseas downstream bases import semi-finished products from the upstream processes of mother mills in Japan and local joint ventures, produce high-grade steel products (where we have strengths), and timely deliver steel products of the same quality as those made in Japan to our overseas customers. NSC thus expanded supply of steel products with the NSC brand to customers through both exports from mother mills in Japan and supply from local production bases.
